沈复，何人也？清朝书生，《浮生六记》之作者也。《浮生六记》，何书也？乃其自传体散文集也。书名“浮生”二字出自李白诗《春夜宴从弟桃李园序》中“夫天地者，万物之逆旅也;光阴者，百代之过客也。而浮生若梦，为欢几何？”
关于沈复的生平记载，寥寥无几。据其所著《浮生六记》，他出身于官僚家庭，志不在朝野，甘愿和自幼相爱，青梅竹马的妻子陈芸过着布衣蔬食的生活。
《浮生六记》记的是这对夫妻平凡的家居生活，两人苦中作乐，琴瑟和鸣;记的是他们的人生坎坷，困顿离合，人情世故;记的是他们去往各地游玩的所见所闻。
该书文字清新坦然，毫无华丽辞藻堆砌、煞费苦心雕琢之意。
在书中，作者以深情直率的笔调叙写夫妻闺房之乐，写出了伉俪情深的真情，也表露了夫妻两人不受封建礼教束缚的洒脱潇然。
虽然该书篇幅只有四卷之长，但它的文学价值极高，向来为文学爱好者和研究者所重视，影响广泛。
林语堂因”素好《浮生六记》，发愿译成英文，使世人略知中国一对夫妇之恬淡可爱生活”，大约于1936年，出版了《浮生六记》的英译版Six Chapters of A Floating Life。

世事茫茫，光阴有限，算来何必奔忙？人生碌碌，竞短论长，却不道荣枯有数，得失难量。
Why should we keep ourselves occupied in this world where future is uncertain and life is short？ People rush to lead a busy life, competing and arguing, without realizing that ups and downs are preordained and that losses and gains are unpredictable.
情之所钟，虽丑不嫌。
Your plainness doesn’t repel me since my heart already belongs to you.
从此扰扰攘攘，又不知梦醒何时耳。
Thereafter, I returned to the world of earthly love, knowing not when I will be awoken from this romantic dream.
秋侵人影瘦，霜染菊花肥。
Emaciation ensues as autumn gales blow; chrysanthemums bloom with white frost covered.
情深不寿，寿则多辱。
People who love too deeply don’t live long; if they do, they will wallow in mortification.
若布衣暖，菜饭饱，一室雍雍，优游泉石，真成烟火神仙矣。
We are like immortal gods living in earthly paradise with linen clothes warming our bodies, frugal diets filling our stomachs, loving families enriching our souls and spectacular scenery broadening our horizons.
来世卿当为男，我为女子相从。
In the afterlife, I want to be your wife while you’re the husband.
布衣饭菜，可乐终身，不必作远游计矣。
You can lead a comfortable life in linen clothes and on meagre diets, and therefore rendering efforts to earn a living in faraway places unnecessary.
良辰美景，不放轻过。
You should not give the picturesque scenery only a perfunctory glance.
劝世间夫妇，固不可彼此相仇，亦不可过于情笃。
There shall not be a feud between husband and wife; nor shall there beexcessive affection.
逢时遇景，拾翠寻芳。
Why not hanging around on scenic spots, admiring magnificent views on a bright day？
一任他人情反复，世态炎凉，优游闲岁月，潇洒度时光。
No matter how fickle other people are, I just slow down and wander around at liberty.
檐前老树一株，浓荫覆窗，人面俱绿。
There is an old tree in front of the eaves with spreading branches and luxuriant foliage shading windows. Below it, all seem to take on a green hue.
无人调护，自去经心。
There is no one taking care of you when you’re far away from home and you should look after and love yourself more attentively.
酒瓶既罄，各采野菊插满双鬓。
After emptying wine bottles, we picked flowers and placed them through earlocks.
